THE ROAD TO DENMARK

Denmark, the small peninsula on the top of Europe. Riding from Germany, the first contact with the 'Dane mark', as the land was known in Old-Nordic languages, is the flat expanse called Sønderjylland. Here you’ll get to choose whether to head for the western isles, or head up through central Jutland. Choose if you want to go along the North Sea up to Skagerrak, which separates Denmark and Norway. Or you can visit central Jutland with its innumerable sights and sounds. You can also head up the east coast of Jutland to Djursland, on the Kattegat Sea, and from there, on to Skagen, the northernmost point in Denmark. Apart from Jutland, Denmark has more than 406 named islands, and countless islets.

MARGUERITRUTEN

There are many great reasons to pick Denmark for your motorcycle destination. You won’t find tall mountains with steep inclines and hairpin turns. Denmark doesn’t have long winding roads that stretch into the horizon, either. But Denmark offers an abundance of other features, from varied terrain, to hills and forests, lakes and seas. Denmark is known for the ”Margueritrute” (the Daisy Route), which is more than 3600km long, especially designed to let motorcyclists experience the most important cultural and natural treasures of Denmark, first hand. Coming up from the south, you can get onto the Margueritrute at the town of Kruså.

RIDING THE BACK ROADS

The Margueritrute is an interconnected system of small winding country roads, spanning the entire country. If you stick to the route, and follow the signs showing a white and yellow daisy on a brown background, you won’t cross the same stretch of road twice. The Route is highly recommended for motorcyclists. From the Margueritrute, getting to the larger cities is both quick and easy, if you want a change from all the nature and pretty rural roads.
