THE ROAD TO AUSTRIA

There are two kinds of Austria. There’s the Winter Austria, for your winter sports, and then there is the Summer Austria, which most motorcyclists love, due to the outstanding roads which Austrian infrastructure offers. The Alps cover about 60% of Austria, and combined with a varied terrain, roads winding through long valleys, it makes the country unique for motorcycle riders.

Austria is a land-locked nation, bordering on Liechtenstein and Switzerland to the west, Italy and Slovenia to the South, Hungary and Slovakia to the east and Germany and the Czech republic to the north.

AUSTRIAN HISTORY

The Republic of Austria was formed on the remains of the Austro-Hungarian dual sovereignty, after the First World War, and had its first constitution in 1920. That republic was reinstated after the Second World War in 1945, this time called, aptly enough, The Second Republic.

FIND YOUR OWN WAY

Longitude and latitude doesn’t matter much in Austria. Disengage your GPS, and let the enjoyable roads lead you to your destination. Finding your way is easy in this fantastic landscape. When talking about Austria, you have to mention the federal state of Tyrol. One of nine federated states in Austria, Tyrol is predominantly alpine, and the most sparsely populated. The state makes up the Austrian part of Alpine Tyrol, and shares borders with Germany, Switzerland and Italy, while also sharing borders with fellow federal states, such as Vorarlberg, Salzburg and Kärnten. Tyrol is comprised of two geographically separate areas: North-Tyrol and East-Tyrol. There is also a South-Tyrol, but that is an autonomous Italian region.
