Mont Ventoux is a mountain in the Provence region of southern France, located some 20 km north-east of Carpentras, Vaucluse. On the north-side, the mountain borders the Drôme département. It is the largest mountain in the region and has been nicknamed the "Giant of Provence", or "The Bald Mountain". It has gained fame through its use in the Tour de France cycling race. L'Alpe d'Huez is one of the main mountains in the Tour de France, and has been a stage finish almost every year since 1976. Alpe d'Huez hosted the bobsleigh events at the 1968 Winter Olympics based at Grenoble, only 65km from there, and worth a ride out to, if you need some lunch. Or culture.
