This is a trip back to World War II, where you can retrace the steps of the Allied invasion that turned the tide of the war. The Battle of Carentan, between airborne forces of the United States Army and the German Wehrmacht during the Battle of Normandy, took place between 10 and 15 June 1944, on the approaches to and within the city of Carentan, France. On 6 June 1944, the Allies launched a massive and long-anticipated air and amphibious invasion of France, Operation Overlord. The 101st Airborne Division landed behind Utah Beach with the objective of blocking German reinforcements from attacking the flank of the U.S. VII Corps during its primary mission of seizing the port of Cherbourg.
