The road from Gothenburg to Oslo offers a range of sights, scents, rock formations and interesting light conditions. In the 16th and 17th century, the configuration of Sweden's borders made Gothenburg strategically important as the Swedish gateway to the west, lying on the west coast in the narrow area between the territories of Denmark-Norway. The road takes you over the Svinesund Bridge, crossing Iddefjord at Svinesund, and joining Sweden and Norway. The bridge is the westernmost border crossing (and one of the southernmost) between the two countries.
