The town is located in the Arve Valley, in the region Faucigny. Situated between Geneva and Chamonix, Cluses is located near a number of popular ski slopes. Situated near the massive peaks of the Aiguilles Rouges, Chamonix shares the summit of Mont Blanc with its neighboring commune of Courmayeur in Italy, and own the title of highest commune in France. Mont Blanc, at a height of 4,810 metres, is the third most visited natural site in the world. The first Winter Olympic Games in Chamonix in 1924 further raised Chamonix's profile as an international tourist destination.
